Yowie are back with a new release, “Taking Umbrage”, that will be released on October 3rd 2025. The St Louis based band have not released an album since 2017’s Synchromysticism. They have a new line-up to the band with two new guitarists, Daniel Kennedy (from Philidelphia, of avant-jazz metal band Cleric) and Jack Tickner (from Wollongong Australia, of weirdo-rockers Basil’s Kite) joining founding member and band constant drummer, Defenstrator.
The band formed in 2000 in St Louis, started playing shows in 2001, and released their debut in 2004, this is only their fourth album over that 20 plus year period and the first without founding guitarist Jeremiah Wonsewitz.
Live versions of two of the tracks were teased early as part of a split album release with Pili Coït in May 2025. Yowie continue to bring their assault on your hearing with their instrumental brutal avant math rock. It’s complex, angular, rehearsal intensive, noisy. Seven tracks spread over 37 minutes last just long enough to leave you breathless and doesn’t overstay its welcome. Suggested listening for fans of Upsilon Acrux, Ruins, Melt Banana, US Maple, Schnellertollermeier and the like.
