Mark’s Quick Reviews: COREIGN’s – Continuity

I have had pretty bad luck when it comes to married composer couples coming out with albums. This continued that streak. Once again I need to say you should pass on this album. This couple from Switzerland fails to capture the sound of the drama I look for in a progressive rock album. Curry’s vocals are a bit high in the first few songs and the vocals really do nothing for me. Sorry Curry!

This album from Brighton, England has some quite good songs on it but the recording, at least to my ears, is poor. I think they were going for a dirtier sound as opposed to a sanitized sound. What they got however was something has no fidelity at all. The music is good enough to make me want to hear more from them in the future but again I have to say this album is a pass for me.

So this is a pretty fun album a nice three piece that can really rock out and the song writing is above average.

Something about it tells me that I would like the band live more than the album. I can imagine there would be some energy from this three piece.

They are basically a Pennsylvania band I think I will keep an eye our for a Chicagoland live show.

Three multi-instrumentalists and a drummer (see below) , from Penwith, Cornwall combine for what is a very melodic, mostly instrumental addition to the 2017 cannon of progressive rock. So, again, this not what I look for in prog, but the melodies are pleasing but not dramatic which is what appeals to me.

I had a chance to see this band, but they were up against Schooltree at ProgtoberFest so I missed them. Later their album showed up here. In Five of the Eye’s message it read, “for fans of Mars Volta” which led me to be intrigued and, let me tell you, this album delivered. This is the album I always wanted Mars Volta to make. I really only liked Deloused in the Crematorium so if you are a fan of that particular album then I whole-heatedly suggest you buy this album.
