Mark’s Quick Review: Tamarisk’s – Breaking The Chains

Mark’s Quick Review: Tamarisk’s – Breaking The Chains

This long lost music of Tamarisk was orginally released on cassette and cd in the early 80’s. All of Tamarisk’s tracks remastered from original quarter inch tapes.

This cd comes with Four newly recorded songs from Tamarisk’s 1984 live set, A 16 page booklet telling the story of Tamarisk, The lyrics to all 11 songs.

It is great that in the early 80’s that they were making Progressive Rock in the face of the current trends of the era. Here is the thing it does sound dated to me, I mean it is 40 years old. So I think if you go in knowing you will like this album.

Andy Grant vocals are guitar work is great to but maybe to high in the mix which does sound a bit muddy. I Still think that this is an album for fans for Marrillion, Fish or Pendragon.

Its a shame to think what could have been but the band did break up in 1984

Mark’s Quick Review: Toinen Toista’s – Toinen Toista

This band really surprised me. I was looking at the artwork and I was expecting another under average album. I was wrong. This Finnish band has really captured the beauty of 70’s era prog.

The title track and the final epic track are the best tracks I believe and all songs are nice and moody. T

After listening a few times I even saw the beauty of the album art work.

I have linked the title track below to our request system. Give it a listen.

Mark’s Quick Review: The Fierce and The Dead’s-The Euphoric

So the Fierce and the Dead is a band I have had the pleasure of seeing live and actually hanging out with too. They are on the fringe of my tastes. So I would be hard pressed to give them an outstanding review based on my own personal likes.

The band is a four piece band from London with two guitars, base and drums. They grew from what was going to be Matt Stevens’ second solo album.

This album is still great despite them not being in my sweet spot of prog. This hard driving instrumental band has a lot going for it. Its different, energetic and emotional. The guys have a great stage presence and are a must see band live. Personally they are just a ton of fun and genuinely nice people.

The album art is another wonderful piece from Mark Buckingham who actually did our artwork here at progrock.com

The rating is great and so are most of the songs feel free to request and listen for yourself below. I have picked two of my favorites.

Mark’s Quick Review: Subsignal’s – La Muerta

Subsignal’s – La Muerta

For me this band made a large positive leap with their 2013 album Paraíso so I was a little bit worried that maybe this album would go backwards a bit but those fears were unfounded. The 2018 Release is their best album to date. There are consistently more above average songs on this album than its predecessors.

For fans of bands such as RPWL which makes sense because Yogi Lang and Kalle Wallner produced this album.

My favorite tracks are below, feel free to request one.

Mark’s Quick Review: Tamarisk’s – Breaking The Chains

Mark’s Quick Review: A Perfect Circle’s – Eat the Elephant

A Perfect Circle’s Eat the Elephant review

A Perfect Circle has awoken 14 years since their last album with Eat the Elephant and we are sure glad they did.

The Album is a bit mellower than their previous but not a mellow album. Maynard James Keenan (Tool) vocals are outstanding and front half of this album is about as good as anything I have heard all year.

I really like the direction they took with more piano and electronica. This is for fans of Galahad and Tool for sure. I think that anyone that likes albums as heavy as I rated this will like this album. Below are my two favorite tracks for you to request.

Mark’s Quick Review: Tamarisk’s – Breaking The Chains

Mark’s Quick Review: Arena’s – Double Vision

Arena in the 22nd year one the bands that I credit with the resurgence of progressive rock as their albums has been wonderful since their inception. Their lineups are always filled with amazing musicians and equality strong song writing.

The albums have ranged from good to great and in my mind the 4 albums from 1998 to 2004 are all amazing albums. I have to admit that prior albums I did not go back and listen to until recently and maybe should be included in this run of amazing albums.

That brings us to Double Vision which I was hoping for good things as the last two albums I thought had great moments but they weren’t up to the quality of the 2005 and prior albums. Not much is really, which is a testament to what I thought of the band when I first heard them in 2004.

I am happy to report that this album is great. If maybe you were not in love with the last couple of albums I highly recommend you check out this album.

My favorite song after about 7 listens to this album is the very poppy “the Mirror lies”.
The epic “The Legend of Elijah Shade” maybe the best epic I have heard this year. The whole album is solid and if you asked 7 different people what their favorite song is you might get 7 different songs which is the mark of a great albums.

Do everyone a favor and request on on the station below.
