Composer Evan Hause has released his debut album. Evan, who has a Doctorate of Music Arts and Master of Music degrees, has put out an album I am sure his friends would appreciate. As for me the album fell flat. Once I heard it I thought this is music written for musicians. Now that I know his background I feel that I can say, if you are a musician give this album a listen otherwise you might want to take a pass.

ZW is the Duo of Drummer Mark Zonder (Fates Warning, Warlord, Chroma Key) and Gary Wehrncamp (Shadow Gallery) just to name a few.  After corresponding for more than a decade the two have joined up to make the first album.  If It’s Real

The Can’t Believe starts the album out and what I can’t believe is how much I like Gary Wehrncamp’s vocals.  So maybe I do not like those vocals as much as Baker, Ashland, or Cooper’s vocals, but his vision and passion for this project is illustrated with every lyric.  

The Second track If It’s Real sounds as though its the missing track from In Absentia as just as good as any track on the album.

Two Year’s, Mark Zonder’s favorite track is a tour-de-force.  If you don’t like that song, you don’t like progressive rock. 

Too Late has a great bridge and more drama. 

The Next Big Thing might have my favorite melody and Mark Zonder just wows me on this track.  

This is an impressive album for any size band.  For a duo its frankly unimaginable.  

If you consider this a debut album, well, you would be hard pressed to find a better one.

I had never heard of this band before but their third album is gaining some traction and I want to thank them for sending me their music. I will keep an eye on this band but this album is still not quite good enough for me to recommend you buy it. This musicianship is quality and if you look my last.fm account and see that we do not have a super amount of overlap you might want to give this a try.

The third album from Emerald Dawn proves to be the charm.  After putting some slightly above albums out prior to this in 2014 and 2017 but the song writing took a leap forward in this album.  The album is basically four long songs with one clocking in at 20 minutes. 

Personally the album sounds dreary at times and not moody.  I like this album none the less. Definitly worth a few listens.

Well. For me the Astonishing was astonishingly bad. It is, to this day, only concert I ever walked out of. I feel sad about that. Because here is a band trying to do something different and that should be applauded. Instead, it was met with disdain from me.  Unfortunately I just didn’t like it, as much as I tried to. The band was aware that other fans were feeling as I did, and in an attempt to win some of those fans back the returned to a fan friendly album in Distance Over Time.

They did succeed to win me over in this endeavor.  This is my favorite album since Octivarium. If there was any criticism it would be that its a bit safe and there no 5 star moments on this album for me, at least not yet.  

I come to expect 5 star songs from this band as I believe they have a dozen or so that I feel that strongly about.  

Long story short check out this album I wouldn’t be surprised if you liked it even more than I did.  When I look at other peoples reviews everyone seems to have a different favorite song so that is a very good sign.

Not sure what to say about this album.  It is certainly not for me.  I would have hazarded a guess its not really for many people but Marco Minnemann must like it as he is on the album. They actual playing is top notch but I don’t hear anything but a cacophony.  If you are looking for more experimental RIO type of prog or are a Marco Minnemann fan give it a listen.  However if you check my last.fm ratings and we have similar likes take a pass
