This Swedish female fronted band takes some its influences from modern pop music but still has its roots in progressive rock. I think many fans of progressive rock would think that this is not progressive enough for them. I think I too might biased by the use of pop sounds and mixing to really like this album enough to recommend it. I would prefer to spin Lacuna Coil or Powder before this.

We are in a new era of guitar virtuosity with some incredible players making names for themselves. Add Al Joseph to ths list. The Berklee grad is getting ready to release the debut album from his band Hymine and it showcases not only his insane guitar chops but also his powerful voice.
Formed in the heart of Los Angeles, HYVMINE is the brain child of world-renown progressive-metal guitarist and virtuoso, Al Joseph. After nearly five full years of flooding the scene with guitar mayhem Al sets out in efforts to make yet another mark on the metal scene by not only chopping trees with his axe, but now blowing down houses as the lead vocalist and front-man of this new guerrilla army.
HYVMINE is now set to release its debut album ‘Earthquake’ on Jan 19th.
AJ says, ”This new music is not only about bringing the house down but about uplifting the soul. Now with the collective and creative efforts of his newest members he hopes to express a completely raw side to his music for years to come. Choose your weapons wisely and get ready for war!”
The album’s first single “Shogun” combines a barrage of thunderous double bass drums with prog metal guitar rhythms accompanied by Al Joseph’s soulful voice and out of this world solos.

Vienna, Austria-based keyboardist, composer, producer, and technology tinkerer, Gerald Peter, has put out an instrumental piano led EP that is really quite nice. This 21 minute release is just the right length. I am a sucker for some classical piano and this fits the bill quite nicely.
The 1st movement of the six was so good I decided to start off our Music In Widescreen show with it after only just hearing it 20 minutes prior to show time.
The drama that I crave is here and this makes a nice edition to the station. Feel free to request a song below.

So this is definitely not an album for me, as its too jazzy for me. I can’t tell if the sax is too high in the mix or I just don’t have an ear for this type of album. Music like this seems to only go down well with other musicians but not so much with “norms”.
This review reflex who I am and possibly not the quality of the music.
We have added it to the library so go ahead request it and hear for yourself. If you are a fan of jazz or the Canterbury scene this might work for you.

Very nice mellow album. The perfect antidote after watching a really crazy Black Mirror episode. I melodies are nice but maybe a bit to mellow for my taste. I like a little more drama typically in my prog.
